was last night a good night for mitt romney? yes, it was. bad night for obama? sure. did the president blow a chance to deliver a knockout punch? you better believe it. but really, everything is going to be okay. sure, the president looked bored and defensive, but he didn't say anything sound bitable. he didn't sight, he didn't check his watch, didn't answer in detached and aloof fashion a question about somebody raining and killing his wife. he was not shocking, he was -- i suspect the goal of the night was actually to be mhh and live to fight another day. it's not the greatest strategy i have ever heard but it's not a campaign-ending strategy. we've still got three more debates to go. the next one is next week and it's between joe biden and paul ryan. joe's not going to be afraid to throw some punks around and combat the deceptions about taxes, medicare, social security, and the rest. and the president himself has two more chances to meet romney on the debate field of battle. you can bet that the passive note scribbling guy that showed up last night is not going to

the mitt romney wasn display last night is the one that his friends and family and a few journalists who have had access to him over the years have seen before. that guy can win this race. the question is, can jesus stain it beyond one night. >> in any number of areas what governor romney has done as he said laid, said last night he laid out the broad principles but now you have gotten specific about the good parts, the carrot if you will and very vague about the stick. >> obama is brilliant in a speech, a peach is different than when you are in an argument and when you are in an argument if you don't bring passion to your argument the other side is generally going to win and what you say almost matters as much as how you say it, and the scary thing about politics is, substance aside, you know, a lot of the journalist whose know the substance on these issues are debating with themselves who was more accurate and who was not. when you listen to the person in the street, the voter, the juror who i speak to, they say i understood romney, i didn't understand obama. i liked romney's style

because mitt romney seemed to be very much on his game last night. i want to play one sound bite where he really laid out the issues in this economy in a very clear way. >> i just don't know how the president could have come into office, facing 23 million people out of work, rising unemployment, an economic crisis at the kitchen table, and spend his energy and passion for two years fighting for obama care instead of fighting for jobs for the american people. it has killed jobs. and the best course for health care is to do what we did in my state. craft a plan at the state level that fits the needs of the state, and then let's focus on getting the costs down for people. >> ana, over time, you have been no giant fan of mitt romney's campaign style. yet you seemed to see a different mitt romney last night. >> oh, i absolutely do. and i hope this is the mitt romney that continues showing up between now and november 6th. the mitt romney that showed up last night, john, was alive and kicking. whereas, you know, president obama was rip van winkel. wake me u

and as i say, i thought mitt romney did have a strong night and looked prepared and fresh and didn't look overprogrammed. if it comes down to a wash of detail there is where you get into this, i don't know everybody was following details. and even of don frank. you know? do people know details of what is in the financial regulation? not sure. so i think in the end that might end up being a wash. >> is there one bullet point saying you wish the president had gotten across on economics? what do you want it to have been? >> that is a good question. mitt romney leveled a series of accusations against the president and kept increasing in that this charge that the president was cutting $716 billion for medicare. it doesn't seem like the president got a chance to that he refuted that. it's been an ongoing debate. critics of the governor saying well, wait a minute, romney yin plan has that same cut in this and i think the president probably should have done more. >> thank you. >> great to see you again, greta. >> time is running out early voting underway in many states. does our next guest t

stuart: the one the debate last night? >> absolutely romney. there is a small town of about 300 people around here where i watched it in a local tavern. the folks in the tavern had the same worries that we do in the city. and down, everyone in that tavern felt like you and i did. stuart: you are a cattle farmer, don't you like subsidies from the federal government? isn't president barack obama tried to bribe you with some subsidies? >> i think things have been going so well now that that is not really the case anymore. the big businessmen, which farmers are, they do not rely on that clutch anymore. you cannot put a farmer out of business with the weather, but you may if you back over his mailbox. that is not the case anymore. it is good old-fashioned work and there are no shortcuts. stuart: i was joking, scott. i hope you know that. i am a tree farmer myself. i am not looking four subsidies from president obama or anyone else. >> it is a good honest days work and you sleep better. the oxygen that you get out here is much better than in the city
